Sermon: Clean & Fill Series- Clean

I was extremely excited to preach this sermon based on the first ever Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) recorded in Leviticus 16. It's not that I often get real excited about preaching from the book of Leviticus, but it was a joy for me to proclaim Christ as the ultimate scapegoat who carries away our sins. I preached this sermon as a gift to those among us, myself included, who need to enter into a new year forgiven and cleansed from the regrets and sins of 2008. I was hoping, through his message, to also bridge the gap between the Old Testament Jewish world and the New Testament Christian world which culminates in the passion of Christ. Please click on the following link to the sermon and feel free to add your thoughts, questions and reflections on the message: http://www.stroudsburgwesleyan.org/index.php?page=audio_sermons2&audio_id=33

Thank you, Pastor Lenny, for starting the New Year with a wonderful sermon. We all need to recognize that we are all sinners. Sin is not just the serious offenses, but also includes loving money, hating our enemies, holding grudges, lying, being prideful and so many other things where we fall short. Some of us fail to recognize some of these things as sins.

Since “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), and we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), we would be condemned to the flames of hell, if Christ as the ultimate scapegoat did not carry away our sins.

Since God could not let our sins go unpunished, he sent the perfect Lamb to bear the sins of those who trust in Him. Only God could have designed this perfect plan of salvation.

As I reflect on 2008 and begin 2009, I need to confess my sins, accept His forgiveness and cleansing, remember this amazing gift of salvation, be totally thankful and strive to live a life that pleases Him!

I really enjoyed this message, the way you presented helped me to remember that even though we do sin our sins are forgiven and we can go on, and not get burdened by them or feel guilty. Yes we sin and yes we need to confess them. But by the grace of God we don't have to hold on to them we can confess them and know we are forgiven . Thank You Pastor Lenny, I look forward to Part 2 next week.
